Workin' for a Livin'
By trade, I'm a geek. At present I work full time for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a departmental systems administrator and developer. I specialize in open source technologies and security.
When not working at UNC, my wife and I are working on our web development company, Silicon Scenery. While working on a real launch of our company, I also do independent consulting. Silicon Scenery focuses on web technologies that allow individuals and small businesses to create professional web sites without the cost of custom site design (even a small custom site can cost many thousands of dollars). Silicon Scenery delivers niche-oriented template systems that allow businesses to deploy sites for about a tenth the traditional cost. (In other words, we seek to be a disruptive business model.)
My educational background is in physics, and I worked as a researcher under contract to the US EPA for several years before switching to my IT career.
